About Arafat Restaurant

Authentic Tanzanian cooking, made with love in Dar es Salaam.

Our Story

Arafat Restaurant is all about three great culinary traditions: the Swahili coast, Somalia and Arabia. From fragrant pilau and smoky mishkaki to Somali bariis iskukaris and Arab shawarma straight off the rotisserie — our kitchen brings together the spices of the Swahili coast, the warmth of Somali home cooking and the generosity of the Arab table. What started as a small grill stand in Kinondoni has grown into one of Dar es Salaam's favourite kitchens, while the recipes have stayed exactly the same: cooked slowly, spiced generously and served with pride.

Today we serve hundreds of meals a day — dine-in and pickup — and every plate still passes the same test: would we serve it to our own family?
